A Seed, A Tree and A Fruit

The tree of life

Where are the fruit trees?

There used to be a time when almost every house hold had a fruit tree in their yard no matter how small it was, a visit to my Grand Mother was made special by the knowledge that there would be a tree that is in season, there were about five fruit trees and my favourite was apricot. Now in these times and era the picture is different in my community i see an odd lemon tree and a peach or avocado tree here and there,  imagine if every house hold had a minimum of two fruit trees in a yard in block or section of 50 houses and how many fruit would be shared in every season? I would not even state the health benefits, environmental benefits and maybe to some extend economic benefit.

In many communities there are people who go to bed on a hungry stomach on daily basis and I think such activities, efforts and commitment will go a long way towards alleviating the suffering of those whom are less fortunate amongst our communities.  Most of the fruit trees they just need watering and about 60% of sunshine daily during the early growth stages and this I must emphasise it is minimum human effort.

Now! for this we don’t need a meeting, a church or a union, as individuals we need to start by planting a fruit tree for ourselves or for someone, there are we know those who leave in places where they won’t be allowed to till the ground or they leave in high up places where there is no ground to plant, come down and make an effort by connecting with people on the ground and purposefully till that ground for the coming generations so that when they finally find that shade to rest upon they can stretch a hand onto that life giving fruit and enter into eternity.

I can hear someone saying but at home there are lots of fruit trees…there can never be enough trees. Captain Thomas Sankara when leading the revolution realising that the desserts was advancing he requested his people to plant a tree on their birthdays and it is reported that some people are continuing with this project still today, if you look at a number trees being chopped down every day a tree planting revolution could be justified.

My birth day is on the 8th October, I am going to plant a fruit tree if not two…

King James Version - Genesis 1:9
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat…
