The Latest on our shelve...

Paulo Coelho is one writer that has made an impact in my spirituality and my life in general through his gift of writing, like most of his books "Eleven Minutes" is a tale of a search for treasure which is self-knowledge and discovery. In this book he manages to tackle sex and prostitution in true Coelho style of spirituality, reflection and projection. Apart from the subject matter there is commonality between The Brazilian girl in this book, Santiago in "the alchemist", the prophet in "the fifth mountain", his search for his wife in "the zahir" , the couple in "by the river piadra..." and now his journey of rediscovery  in "Aleph". I find his point very debatable on the actual eleven minutes issue that beyond eleven minutes the union losses its potency and it becomes a sheer physical and academic exercise, well for some it can be much lesser than that and i hope for most it slightly more than that.
A book well written, a subject well explored and a character well presented, i enjoyed this book, read it once more and even today there are still pages that i visit often...
Zakes Mda is one of those rare South African writers that blend fiction with well researched facts; I read  "ways of dying" and "the heart of redness" both enjoyable and lingers in my memory still today. The Madonna of Excelsior its title that has captured and captivated me for a long time until one day watching a country imagined on SABC 2 that Excelsior was shown and there was a quote read and art form this book depicted and shown then i realise that Excelsior was real and alive and my interest was escalated to new heights. just started reading it and so far it is flowing, about this book anon...
Mia Couto and Camara Laye i have not read these books yet, it is said that if you go browsing for a book without a specific title or author then a book will choose you. I will appreciate any comments or brief reviews about this titles or authors or even other material on these two authors.
We will be gratefull for any book donations especially on african authors and the diaspora, any book that your are convined an african child should and must read will be highy appreciated.
